Hamiltonjet Launches Data-Technology Platform

HamiltonJet, a New Zealand-based company, has rolled out a new fleet monitoring solution, named Overwatch, designed to provide real-time, multi-vessel information to shoreside staff. This solution aims to increase operational efficiencies and enhance safety for crew and passengers.

The platform has been in development for four years, involving two years of figuring out vessel digitization and another two years of pre-deployment testing on customer vessels. HamiltonJet’s Managing Director Ben Reed expressed pride in this new product, highlighting the company’s strong global network and the positive feedback received from repeat customers.

Overwatch includes an onboard recording device, similar to an airplane black box, which collects data from driveline control signals, NMEA2000 signals, and AIS transponders. This data is transmitted to the cloud via the onboard internet connection or phone network, offering a near-live experience despite encryption.

Luke Cook, HamiltonJet’s Global Aftersales Manager, emphasized the evolving marine industry and the increasing role of data in decision-making. He noted that Overwatch democratizes data access, allowing real-time monitoring of vessels’ locations, conditions, and equipment performance from any device.

The Overwatch platform is integral to HamiltonJet’s strategic growth plan, which includes three core pillars: Electrification, Digitization, and Autonomy. The platform supports the digitization pillar and will play a significant role in future Hybrid Electric and Autonomy platforms.

Ben Reed also pointed out that technology is crucial for growth. HamiltonJet has a history of innovation, particularly in advanced marine propulsion solutions and vessel control systems, and believes continuous technological advancement is key to its success.
